WHAT TO EXPECT

Beginning at 8 AM, kick off the day with continental breakfast and time to connect, followed by a warm welcome and opening remarks from Shauna Vander Well, Gail Wright, and Dr. Andrew Mason.

This is followed by Dr. Gideon Hirschfield’s opening session, PBC Past, Present & Future.

After a short break and patient activity, dig into Understanding PBC with Dr. Andrew Mason and Dr. JP Wallach, covering PBC and why we get it, as well as a look at a First Nations community. Then hear from Christofer Cruz in PBC Healthy Eating, right before a break for lunch.

The afternoon opens with the PBC Symptoms Panel, featuring Dr. Mark Swain and Dr. Hin Hin Ko, tackling fatigue and the PBC itch. From there, catch the latest PBC Research Updates from the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Toronto, and CANAL.

We’ll close out the day with Dr. Mina Niazi on bone health and Dr. Puneeta Tandon presenting the EMPOWER program before wrapping up at 4 PM.

Nearby Accommodations

While the conference will be held at the Royal Glenora Club (11160 River Valley Road NW, Edmonton), a limited number of hotel rooms are available for out-of-town attendees at the nearby Matrix Hotel (10640 100 Avenue NW, Edmonton), with a special Canadian PBC Society room rate of $199 per night.

PBC Conference Travel Scholarships

Application Rules

To be considered for a travel scholarship, applicants must apply online at time of registration.

Application deadline is August 30, 2026.

A total of 50 travel scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first served, basis. Each application received by the Canadian PBC Society will be date and time stamped to determine who receives the travel scholarship. Travel scholarship applications must be received by August 30, 2026. All decisions are made by the Canadian PBC Society and are final.

Amount of travel scholarships will be $450 per recipient OR $150 per recipient coming from 2 hours outside the Greater Edmonton Area.

Applicants who are awarded travel scholarships must pay their conference fee to the Canadian PBC Society on or before August 30, 2026. No exceptions. If recipient does not pay his or her conference fee by August 30, 2026, the award will be voided, and the travel scholarship will be awarded to the next applicant on the waiting list.

Travel scholarships are non-transferable. If applicant is selected for a travel scholarship but cancels his or her attendance to the conference for any reason, the next application in line based on the time/date stamp will be awarded the scholarship.

Travel scholarships can only be awarded and used by PBC patients. No family or friends will be awarded a travel scholarship.

Travel scholarships are awarded to assist patients in attending the 2026 PBC Conference and may be used for travel expenses for the patient only. No receipts are necessary and money can be applied to any costs incurred by the patient.

Travel scholarships will be distributed at the end of conference and recipients must attend the conference to obtain the travel scholarship.
